Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to fit, trial and review medical grade footwear and orthoses for foot conditions that are up to medium complexity and risk, including where: corrections to the foot structure are requiredclient is suffering foot-related pain or discomfortulceration is not presentthere is only a single risk factor, which may include age, systemic problems such as diabetes (insulin dependent), haemophilia, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, ulcers, missing toes and lower limb amputations.Work is generally conducted in a small business situation. The unit may apply to a sole practitioner, or someone working directly with medical grade footwear practitioners.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

  • Clarify client requirements and confirm necessary information has been provided

Element: Conduct diagnostic fitting for medical grade footwear and orthoses
  • Use prefabricated or partially fabricated medical grade footwear and orthoses to conduct a diagnostic fitting
       
Element: Evaluate diagnostic fitting and review proposed construction and materials
       
Element: Conduct trial to check function of footwear and orthoses
       
Element: Conduct trial and final fittings of medical grade footwear and orthoses
  • Fit medical grade footwear and orthoses in preparation for trial usage and adjust after consultation with client
       
Element: Conduct trial of real-life usage of footwear and orthoses, ease of fitting and compliance with design and production specifications

Assessment Tasks
