Issue Date: June 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency MEM26002 - Lay up composites using vacuum closed moulding techniques
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to fabricate composites using vacuum infusion processing (VIP) or other vacuum closed moulding techniques. This unit is one of three units covering the basic composite fabrication techniques, the other two being unit MEM26001 Lay up composites using open moulding techniques and unit MEM26003 Lay up composites using pressure closed moulding techniques, which together are intended to ensure the composite tradesperson can undertake a basic fabrication using these methods. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Band: AUnit Weight: 6
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Closed moulding techniques include one (1) or more of the following:

resin infusion under flexible tooling (RIFT)

vacuum bagging

Mould equipment includes the following:

airlines

catchpots

moulds and mould components

infusion system for laminate

Typical problems include one (1) or more of the following:

dead spots trapping air

resin curing too quickly

resin curing too slowly

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Observation Checklist
