Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Determine scope of required welding inspection
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • Identify welding inspection requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
       
Element: Confirm materials are to specification
  • Check markings and other manufacturers information against specifications
  • Select appropriate non-destructive tests and organise and/or conduct in accordance with SOPs or job specifications
  • Check if results of previous testing procedures are available and verify results as relevant to required welding inspection
  • Confirm suitability of materials for required welding

  • Interpret joint design specification and review welding parameters
  • Review WPS and other document procedures
  • Organise preparation of production test piece or sample material
  • Arrange relevant destructive or non-destructive tests
  • Interpret test results and prepare report identifying required action

  • Check material identification is correct
  • Document movement of material through workshop site

Assessment Tasks
