This unit of competency supports racing industry personnel and others authorised to drive the mobile start vehicle at harness race meetings.
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to safely and efficiently drive a mobile start vehicle at harness race meetings under the direction of the race starter. It requires knowledge and skills associated with vehicle, barrier and starter equipment safety and operations checks, strategies to maintain required speed and distance from race field during starting operations, and taking evasive action in emergency situations in accordance with the rules of racing and related protocols.
To undertake this unit the candidate will have an understanding of horse behaviour traits and be able to apply workplace OHS standards. A current driver's licence and a high level of driving experience is also a requirement.
This unit of competency operates in work environments of racing stables, paddocks, yards, racecourses and public areas.
